Is Madonna’s Kiss Her Way Of Anointing The Next Big Thing?

Posted by John Mitchell On December - 8 - 2011

Madonna

So everyone’s going crazy because Nicki Minaj tweeted that she locked lips with the Queen of Pop, Madonna, on the set of the music video for “Give Me All Your Love,” the buzzed about first single from Madonna’s forthcoming 12th studio album.

Apparently, kissing Her Madgesty is oh-so good … “OH MY f’ingggg Gahhhh!!!!! MADONNA jus kissed me!!!!! On the lips!!!!!!! It felt sooooo good. Soooo soft!!!! *passes out* aaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!” Nicki tweet-screamed to all of her Brabz and Kenz late last night. She continued her swoon-athon with a series of tweets (which you can check out after the jump!) for over an hour after.

Which got us thinking about what a kiss from Madonna really means. Of course, any time Madge locks lips with another lady, our mind is immediately drawn back to the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, where the Queen and the Princesses – that’s Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, for those who don’t know (and how is life under that rock?) – performed a “Like A Virgin” medley that included one of the most famous lip locks of all time.

In its own weird way, a lot of people read the performance and kiss and Madonna’s way of anointing Spears as her pop successor. Sure, she kissed Christina too, but that’s not what anyone remembers. They remember that jaw-dropping lip lock with Spears, who was then at the height of her global fame and still a few years removed from the personal drama that nearly consumed her career (blessedly, she got the help she needed and is back and as good as ever today).

Does that mean she sees something special in Nicki too?

Minaj has had a very big year. She had a multi-platinum record with Pink Friday and earned a ubiquitous radio and chart hit with “Super Bass.” And everyone loves her – from Taylor Swift to Justin Bieber’s number one girl Selena Gomez to Britney Spears herself, who handpicked Nicki for her Femme Fatale tour, everyone is gaga for Nicki. Minaj is also beloved by critics and the hip-hop community.

So maybe getting a publicized smooch from Madonna is her way of showing faith in a young performer. After all, when Spears returned to the big time for her comeback album Circus and appeared in the MTV documentary “Britney: For the Record,” Madge was there to lend a hand to the resurgent superstar, proving her support for Spears wasn’t fair-weather. Spears went on to release the best album of her career this year with Femme Fatale, which at least one MTV Newser thinks was the best album of the year.

Perhaps puckering up with Nicki means something similar. We can see Madonna taking a liking to the sexy and sassy rapper. Nicki seems exactly like Madonna’s kind of girl. Or maybe it was just her way of wishing her a happy birthday!

Alec Baldwin’s Long And Awesome History Of Speaking His Mind on Twitter

Posted by MTV News On December - 7 - 2011

Alec Baldwin

By Shakira Atitebi

A flight attendant was the latest subject of a Twitter outburst episode from Alec Baldwin after the actor was booted from a plane at Los Angeles International Airport for playing Word with Friends on his cell phone as his plane was about to take off for New York.

Baldwin took to Twitter and said, “Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving. #nowonderamericaairisbankrupt.”

Baldwin’s rep told People magazine, “Alec was asked to leave the flight for playing Words with Friends while parked the gate. He loves WWF so much that he was willing to leave a plane for it.” Baldwin caught a different flight to New York after the incident and was sure to tweet that the flight attendants on his next flight looked “smarter.”

He later added, “Last flight w American. Where retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950′s find jobs as flight attendants.”

American Airlines commented on too, taking appropriately to Twitter to issue a statement: “Our flight attendants were following federal safety procedures on electronic devices when aircraft door is closed.”

The American Airlines fiasco is only the latest brouhaha the actor has initiated on Twitter, read on to see who else the Emmy-winning “30 Rock” actor has tussled with on the Interweb. (Update: Baldwin has reportedly deactivated his Twitter account!)

Baldwin and conservative blogger Michelle Malkin exchanged some pretty harsh words over the social networking site regarding the execution of Troy Davis.

After Baldwin sent out many tweets condemning the execution, Malkin responded by posting a tweet poking fun at the actor, writing, “Waiting for Hollyweirdo @alecbaldwin ‘s ‘I am Troy Davis’ tweet…”

That’s when Baldwin lost it. He launched a serious of tweets at Malkin, including ” Everyone tweet that great thinker @michellemalkin and ask her what killing a potentially innocent man does to make you safer” and “I wonder if @michellemalkin will push the needle in herself on a man the former FBI director said might have reasonable doubt on his side.” Thousands of Baldwin’s supporters sent Malkin some incredibly harsh words.

Baldwin also got into it with New York State Senate GOP Majority Leader Dean Skelos. The New York Daily News reports the fight began when Skelos mentioned Baldwin’s name in connection to his opposition to a millionaire’s tax. “We can’t be influenced by the Alec Baldwin’s of the world that are just buying a $17 million condo in Greenwich Village,” Skelos said.

Baldwin responded with a series of Twitter messages, challenging the Republican representative to release his tax returns and personal itinerary for the past ten years. “C’mon Dean Skelos!! You professional distorted [sic] of facts!! Join me in a press conference. And bring your tax returns!!”

“Only a Nassau County Republican tool like Dean Skelos could drag my name into a debate on state income tax,” the actor continued. “His partisanship doesn’t bother me, It’s that he’s so dumb.”

Outside of the political sphere, Baldwin got into some hot water when he hit Twitter to blow off steam about an unpleasent experience he had at Starbucks. Baldwin lashed out at an employee, mentioning his name and even tweeting the exact location of the well-know coffee chain where the incident happened.

“Starbucks on 93 and B’way. Uptight Queen barrista [sic] named JAY has an attitude problem,” he posted. Some LGBT blogs were not pleased with the actor’s seeming use of an offensive term, though they were also quick to note that the star has long been a staunch gay rights supporter.

Lest you think all Baldwin does on Twitter is complain, he hit the twitterverse to praise a worker at another neighborhood spot. “Clyde, on the other hand, outside DINOSAUR BARBECUE @ W 125 n H River is MY MAN,” he tweeted. “Keeping the hickory ovens going, he is 2dayz Coolest NYer.”

And while it wasn’t on Twitter, Baldwin used his blog on a pre-AOL-merger Huffington Post to slam AOL for an article it published on its homepage.

“Today, on AOL’s homepage, I am accused of insulting actor Jim Parsons for sending him a congratulatory gift basket, inside of which I added a card that read ‘Congratulations you talented, charming bastard.’ I thought that was a joke. I think Parsons knew that. I think anyone on Earth could see that. Except the eighth degree, black belt idiots that compose the AOL homepage,” he wrote. “I’m still a loyal AOL user. In spite of the fact that its homepage content is written by the dumbest bastards in the world.”

At least he doesn’t sugarcoat his feelings?

‘Teen Mom’ Farrah Vs. Kourtney Kardashian Kick Off This Week’s Twitter Feuds

Posted by Jocelyn Vena On December - 5 - 2011

It’s a new week and that means that already there’s some Twitter drama brewing up. It seems that “Teen Mom” star Farrah Abraham and the eldest Kardashian sister, Kourtney, are getting all up in each other’s business on the social networking site.

It all kicked off shortly after Kourt announced that she’s preggers with her second child with longtime beau Scott Disick. Farrah had this message for the thirtysomething-year-old millionaire: “Im Shocked Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant again, Did she not learn anything from TEEN MOM? Maybe its a fake pregnancy like kims wedding SAD… Double standards in this world? Yes & guess what !age and money honestly do not change a persons poor choice . Quit making excuses:)”

To which Kourtney had this to say: “Why would I have anything to do with teen mom? I’m 32 years old! I may look young honey, but don’t get it twisted. :)

Kourtney hasn’t had much else to say, but the same can’t be said of her boy, Scott, or Farrah herself. Read on to see what they had to say.

Following Kourtney’s tweet, Farrah added, “4 all who misunderstood: regards to kourtney K.~ I hope she takes her relationship w/her boyfriend more serious 4 their children-takecare.” Things went on to get a bit feistier on the part of Farrah and Scott.

So what do you think of this Twitter baby drama? Tell us in the comments!

Weekly Twitter Drama Roundup

Posted by MTV News On December - 2 - 2011

By Kara Klenk

With millions of inane tweets being pumped out every day, it can be hard to keep track of actual celebrity gossip, feuds and random observations that make Twitter so much fun. So we’re rounding up the week in Twitter drama – or Twama for those of you not yet sick of cutesy word combos!

Nicki Minaj vs. Cher

So here’s what went down: A fan told @Cher that @NickiMinaj dissed her in the song “Did It On ‘em” (which came out a full year ago, way to be a topical, pot-stirrer) to which Cher casually replied, “I’ve seen lots of people come & go! No biggie!” (I mean, to be fair to all involved, she has – she’s Cher!) This brought the #Barbz out with pink pitchforks in hand explaining the reference as a metaphor (I still don’t get it). Nicki asked her to “#stopit5″ (the number of fingers you see when you tell someone to stop it?) and Cher quickly apologized for jumping to conclusions, but when overzealous fans wouldn’t back off, Cher told them to “Gimme a fkn break! Said I was dumb.” Then all parties deleted their tweets. (For what it’s worth, whether you can ever truly delete a tweet is debatable.)

Katy Perry Denies All

Many celebs bypass the PR machine and use Twitter to personally address rumors or make statements. Some are better than others (ahem, Ashton), but Katy Perry usually nails it. She took to her Twitter account to shoot down pregnancy and divorce rumors in one clever shot.

More Kardashian Stuff

Just as the #thingslongerthankimsmarriage trend was dying down, the Kardashians catapulted back into the Twittersphere with the announcement of Kourtney’s pregnancy. @KourtneyKardash confirmed the impending arrival of baby number two on Twitter Wednesday (in case people thought she accidentally posed for that “Yes, I’m Pregnant!” cover of US Magazine).

Grammy-Mania

The #hooligans, #katycats, #littlemonsters, #rihannanavy and whatever Bon Iver fans call themselves were tweeting up a storm in the wake of the Grammy nominations. @Ladygaga tweeted she was “humbled + honored to have a Trinity of nominations” while @rihanna said that her album of the year nom is “#MAJAH.” Adele’s resting her voice post-surgery (but she doesn’t really tweet anyway) and @kanyewest’s keeping a tight Twit lip as well. Meanwhile @BrunoMars invented new words to convey his excitement.

So that’s all for this week! If you see an interesting feud, trend or hilarious comment, tweet your interesting Twit bits to @mtvnews and we might feature it!

Simon Cowell Joins Twitter, Immediately Mocks Fellow ‘X Factor’ Judges And Piers Morgan

Posted by John Mitchell On November - 17 - 2011

A little over a month ago, when MTV News‘ Jim Cantiello asked Simon Cowell when he was going to join Twitter, the “X Factor” judge told him, “I can’t do the typing. All my friends, they literally text without looking at the screen. I’m still like, ‘Where’s the S, where’s the A?’ I’ve got to learn how to do it. I’d love to do it. Once they do the thing where you can actually talk and type, I’ll be on it like a shot.”

Well, we’re not sure they’ve developed that technology in the weeks since Jim sat down with Cowell and fellow judge L.A. Reid, but that didn’t stop him from joining the social networking service. Last night, @SimonCowell sent his first tweet into the ether. “It’s official, I know it’s taken a while. It’s really me! We’re live in 10 minutes. I’ll keep you posted. Lots of love #iamsimon. “

Within 12 (mostly overnight) hours, Cowell had racked up over 180,000 followers. So far he’s mostly used his new platform to launch fun jabs at Reid, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger and one not so good-spirited dig at Piers Morgan, who tweeted, “At last! Bring. It. On. love #iampiers. Save your breath @SimonCowell – nobody’s watching X Factor, my show’s about to start #CNN @PiersTonight,” after noticing Cowell signed up for Twitter.

We’d expect nothing less!

Are you excited that Simon has joined Twitter? Tell us in the comments!
