Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald Are Latest Couple To Make Beautiful Music Together

Posted by MTV News On November - 15 - 2011

Paul M and Nikki Reed

Some celebrity couples want to do everything together. Even if it’s not the thing they’re best known for.

But with the glow of their recent wedding still shining bright, “Twilight” actress Nikki Reed and former “American Idol” contestant Paul McDonald have committed their love to plastic courtesy of their first joint single, “Now That I Found You.”

The twangy ballad, with music by McDonald and lyrics by Reed, is, predictably, about finding true love in the eyes of your beloved. The pair’s vocals don’t exactly find the perfect mix, as McDonald’s raspy, Rod Stewart drawl overpowers Reed’s generic voice, employed mostly as musical wallpaper. Reed said McDonald is encouraging her to pursue music in a more serious way, so the song may be just the first of many future collaborations.

Who knows if these two will become the next Sonny and Cher or the modern Don Johnson and Barbra Streisand. But whatever the future holds, they can feel confident that plenty of other musical couples have their back.

The hook-up that might have ended all other couple collaborations is actually the one that never happened. Britney Spears and former N’SYNC member Justin Timberlake were at the peak of their uber-pop glory in the early 2000s, but, sadly, the dynamic duo never consummated the relationship in the studio. Other pop tarts did get busy in the studio, including onetime “Newlyweds” Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey on her single, “Where You Are,” and another ex-pair, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, hooked up on his tune, “No Me Ames.”

While some couples make beautiful music together, such as Mates of State and late Beatles John Lennon and Yoko Ono, the only good that came of the bed-hopping mess that was 1970s powerhouse Fleetwood Mac were such landmark albums as Rumors.

Indie rock, however, is lousy with real-life couple duets, from the recently split Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, to current hipster faves Nathan Williams of Wavves and Best Coast singer Bethany Cosentino, who just released their collaborative track, “Nodding Off.”

Hip-hop has also produced some classic love games, including the Notorious B.I.G.’s “You’re Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You),” which features a chorus from his wife, Faith Evans. And while former Fugees band mates and one-time lovers Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean were able to record songs such as “Fu Gee La” together before their relationship and band split, expectant parents Jay-Z and Beyonce are still going strong and, well, “Crazy in Love.”

Court Finally Rules That All The Legal Hubbub Over Janet Jackson’s Nipple Was A Bit Much

Posted by MTV News On November - 3 - 2011

Janet Jackson

By Zachary Swickey

It’s hard to believe that seven years later we’re still talking about “Nipplegate” – Janet Jackson’s controversial wardrobe malfunction from the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show – but a federal appeals court just ruled that the Federal Communications Commission might have been a bit hasty with their fine for Janet Jackson and CBS over the incident.

The Wrap reports that according to the Philadelphia 3rd District Court of Appeals, the FCC wrongly fined Jackson and the network $550,000 for her performance, which included Timberlake ripping off a scrap of her clothing and accidentally exposing the singers left breast (although if I recall, she covered it up with a tasteful sun-shaped jewel resembling Godsmack’s logo). Of course the government agency wasn’t thrilled with the outcome, but CBS spokeswoman Shannon Jacobs viewed the ruling as the FCC being forced to adhere to the indecency policies they had in place before the incident occurred. As you can see from this handy dandy wiki chart (of course the incident has its own Wikipedia page), the fine-to-complaints ratio was rather askew.

The case has been in legal limbo for years now. In 2008, the 3rd Circuit Court ruled to void the fine, a ruling vacated by the Supreme Court in 2009. The case subsequently returned to the 3rd Circuit once again.

Some don’t realize just how much Jackson’s nipple rocked the media world. Following the incident, the FCC cracked down on daytime soaps that are known for their steamy sexual nature. Time delays (sometimes as long as ten minutes) became a new staple – practically eliminating any chance for another wardrobe malfunction to occur.

Halftime performers since the incident have been of the legendary but less sexy variety: The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and Paul McCartney – none of whom seem likely to expose anything. The Black Eyed Peas, Slash and Usher performed last year, but reviews of the admittedly unique show were rather harsh. However, rumor has it that Madonna (while also an older legend) will spice things up again at next year’s Super Bowl with a performance of her new single, “Give Me All Your Love,” which features Nicki Minaj and the controversial M.I.A.

How Does Justin Timberlake Feel About Britney Spears’ Shower?

Posted by MTV News On October - 19 - 2011

Britney Spears Criminal Video

Just like you, we gasped at the nearly NSFW video for Britney Spears’ ‘Criminal.‘ It’s by far her most risqué look yet, and that’s saying a lot from the woman who reinvented the mile high club in the classic ‘Toxic’ video.

There’s plenty of chatter about that shower scene with Brit’s real life beau Jason Trawick and one of our favorite responses came not in words, but in animated GIF form, reuniting Britney with Justin Timberlake in full ‘Cry Me a River’ mode.

Britney’s nookie with Jason isn’t the first time that Britney Spears has teamed up with a real-life love to show the world her romance is steamier than yours.

Remember back to 2004 when she jumped into bed for husband Kevin Federline’s remake of ‘My Prerogative.’ If you can’t recall it, here you go:

Did Lance Bass Start Justin Timberlake Beef with Heart2Heart’s "Facebook Official"?

Posted by Gil Kaufman On October - 17 - 2011

Justin Timberlake

There’s not enough lip-gloss, guyliner and MAC foundation in the world to describe how catchy Heart2Heart’s “Facebook Official” is. But that’s not why we’re obsessed with this robot-like boy band that claims former N’SYNC member Lance Bass as their mentor.

No, we’re freaking out over the FB song because the very first line of the audio crack tune appears to take a big, fat slap at Bass’ former bandmate, Justin Timberlake, who recently signed on to help resurrect the sinking social networking site MySpace. And while we keep holding out hope that JT will one day come to his senses and return to making music, it seems pretty certain at this point that we should wave “Bye Bye Bye” to any hope of that 20th anniversary N’SYNC reunion tour in 2015.

You see, on “Official,” Heart2Heart – Chad Future (self-proclaimed “leader”), Nico (youngest and most acrobatic), Pretty Boi Pete (“swag general”), Brayden (rapper/actor) and KX (choreographer and “sub” vocalist) – sing about telling a girl they want to make their thing as official as possible. Future shows her how by dressing up in his best all-white everything, winking into the camera and rapping, “log on, MySpace is dead/I’m checkin’ your page to see what you said,” just moments after Bass makes his brief cameo in the clip.

Lance Bass

In addition to having the most flattering lighting and makeup effects this side of a Barbra Streisand movie, the glossy, futuristic video for “Official” is so over-the-top it almost looks like a “Saturday Night Life” digital short spoof of boy bands, or maybe a sly, clever viral marketing campaign for Facebook (or MySpace, for that matter.) Except, as far as we can tell. It’s not.

What do you think of “Facebook Official?”

Mila Kunis, Justin Timberlake, Scarlett Johansson: Most Surprising Nude Photo Scandals

Posted by Jocelyn Vena On September - 15 - 2011

This week is a big one for followers of nude photo scandals. Not only did photos of Scarlett Johansson hit the web, but there are now rumors that sexy photos of her “What Goes Around” video co-star Justin Timberlake – taken on his “Friends With Benefits” co-star Mila Kunis’ phone – are floating around the world somewhere. Justin connection aside, the most surprising part of this scandal is that these two ladies, both of whom tend to keep their private lives to themselves, are actually involved with a nude photo scandal to begin with.

Over the course of the new millennium, countless celebrities have been embroiled in sex scandals, some unsurprising and some very, very surprising, and most of which have no connection to Justin T whatsoever. So, which scandals really surprised us?

Blake Lively’s pics, which hit the net earlier this year, came a bit out of nowhere. The photos were leaked just as she began dating Leonardo DiCaprio and seemed to be moving into the next phase of her career. She said they weren’t real, but the hacker claimed they were.

Kanye West is about as high profile a celebrity as there is, so when photos of his genitalia hit the net, it was a bit shocking. (This stuff doesn’t usually happen to the really big stars.) He went on to rap about the incident in his song “Runaway.” It seems Yeezy’s art is very much influenced by his life.

“Twihards” got an eyeful of Ashley Greene back in 2009. The seemingly good girl actress played it coy about whether or not it was truly her in the photos, and her lawyers acted fast and got the photos taken off the Internet as best they could.

Vanessa Hudgens found herself naked on the Internet back in 2007 and it remains one of the most-talked about parts of her career. She even took the blame when it all went down. “I want to apologize to my fans, whose support and trust means the world to me,” Hudgens said in a statement. “I am embarrassed over this situation and regret having ever taken these photos. I am thankful for the support of my family and friends.”

Paramore leading lady Hayley Williams faced her topless photo scandal with grace and dignity, tweeting her fans a big thank you for their support. “Always knew we had the greatest fans,” she tweeted. “Thank you so much for all the support. Overwhelming. Today is a new day. Gonna keep my head up high.”
