Premiere: Porter Robinson’s ‘The College Invasion Tour’ Mini-Doc

Posted by MTV News On November - 30 - 2011

By Akshay Bhansali

At 19-years old, Porter Robinson is already among the most explosive, versatile DJ-producers in electronic dance music. With banging tracks that range from electro house to dubstep to moombahton, Porter has come a long way since MTV News first met the then-18-year-old high schooler from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with buddies Aero, Tommy Lee, Sofi and deadmau5 at Miami Music Week in March of this year. Since then, he’s dropped his stellar Spitfire EP and toured the U.S. with Tommy Lee, Aero and Skrillex. And when it came time for one of dance music’s biggest icons to hit college campuses across America this September, Porter was handpicked by Tiësto to join him on his "College Invasion Tour." Luckily for us, and you fans, Porter brought along a cameraman to document the last week of his history-making trek. Shot by Kaskade and Insomniac Events’ brilliant cameraman, Justin Nizer, MTV is proud to premiere Porter Robinson’s "The College Invasion Tour" mini-doc, featuring cameos by Tiësto and Diplo ... and MTV News, to name a few.

Check it out below!

Set mainly to joints off of Porter’s Spitfire EP, the short film takes fans through PR’s final west coast dates in September, ranging from an unannounced Santa Barbara show after-party at a house to his record-setting show in Carson before an audience of 26,000 people. Through the film, audiences are treated to the rollercoaster ride of life on the road of a superstar DJ. Wanna know what’s on PR’s rider? How he describes 2011 and his fans? Check out the video above, or tune in at 3:30 AM this Thursday on MTV Clubland (MTV’s block of electronic dance music videos airing Monday through Friday from 3-4 AM EST)! You won’t want to miss it.

Do you love Porter Robinson? What do you think of his documentary? Let us know in the comments below!

Does Beyonce Have A Smoke And Mirrors Plan To Have Her Baby In Peace?

Posted by John Mitchell On November - 30 - 2011

Beyonce

Beyonce is one smart cookie.

Today, everyone is going a little crazy with the news that the pop star may be welcoming her baby with hubby Jay-Z a little earlier than everyone expected. In a YouTube clip from the set of her video for "Countdown," King Bey holds up the Sept. 23 edition of the New York Daily News and responds to its "Oh Baby!" headline by saying she is six months pregnant.

"Hello, it's Sept. 23. Oh baby! Oh baby! Oh baby! Oh baby! This was on the cover of the Daily News. Right now I'm actually shooting the video for 'Countdown' and I'm six months pregnant, pretending that my stomach is flat in body suits," the superstar says in the clip. "But thank god you can't really tell from the front, but when I turn to the side ... Oh baby! Oh baby!"

But wait! That would mean that she is due in mid-to-late December and not February, as was reported earlier during a sit-down interview with the star on Australia's "Sunday Night." That's a pretty dramatic shift in time! And it makes us wonder if Beyonce isn't maybe trying create a little bit of confusion around when she's actually due so she can give birth in peace. It's a totally understandable trick – Beyonce is notoriously private and unlike many modern celebrities, who quite literally invite cameras into the delivery room, our girl Bey has never been one to give in to the prying eyes of the press.

We've compiled a little evidence after the jump.

>>> If Beyonce was indeed six months pregnant on Sept. 23, 2011, that would mean she was about five months pregnant during her intimate, mid-August performances at the Roseland Ballroom in support of her (awesome) album 4.

Yes, pregnancy hits everyone a little differently, every lady gains different amounts of weight and begins to show at different times, but does Beyonce look five months pregnant in the first image below (from August 18)?

>>> Which brings us to the second and third pictures in the above image. Again, a lot can happen in three weeks in the life a of a pregnant woman, and we hold degrees in English and communications and not obstetrics so we are not experts in pregnancy, but the middle image is from Beyonce's performance at the MTV Video Music awards on August 28 and the third image is from the "Countdown" set video on Sept. 23. It's a dramatic difference.

It's also worth pointing out that the first image and the third image in the above photo were taken one month and five days apart.

>>> Another point of interest comes from that original "Sunday Night" interview during which the February due date was first revealed. Anyone who has ever dealt with celebrities, particularly stars of Beyonce's caliber, knows that the details revealed in an intimate sitdown of this variety are not arbitrary. "Sunday Night" did not just make up or assume that Beyonce was due in February; that information was told to them by someone and it was likely a person within her camp who the show believed could speak with authority on the matter.

This is all, of course, speculative. But it's something we've been thinking for a while. Bey knows that the paparazzi are going to be an inescapable presence in her life as her due date nears, and her skills at dodging them over the years make us think she'd be clever enough to fudge the facts of her due date to throw them off her trail. While she is one of the most famous women in the world, her pregnancy is a private matter and her personal business, and she's made it abundantly clear that the details of her private life are not meant for public consumption. (She and Jay-Z are still very careful when talking about each other in interviews … nearly four years after they tied the knot!) For Beyonce, one of the classiest cats in the game, some things are still sacred.

Posted by John Mitchell On November - 30 - 2011

Now that Thanksgiving is over, Taylor Swift can now focus on her absolute favorite thing – Christmas! With her massive, special guest-heavy "Speak Now" world tour wrapped, Taylor can focus on the important things, like making homemade snow globes.

Yes! Swift posted a bunch of completely adorable pics to her Instragram feed with captions like, "Home made snow globes with friends. The whole fleet!" and "Christmas in a jar, with glitter."

Taylor is also ramping up her collaboration with American Greetings with a holiday collection includes collectible ornaments and Christmas cards. "The latest cards from Taylor are highlighted by her appealing casual writing style, inspiring photography, expressive hand lettering, and joyful designs that make every greeting memorable," an American Greetings press release wrinkled its nose and said. "This year's holiday collection features everything from festive scenes like stockings hanging on a mantle, beautifully wrapped packages, and elegant decorations to the small, charming joys of children catching falling snow and a deliciously warm cup of hot chocolate just begging for a little whipped cream."

But that's not all. The greeting card giant and the pop-country megastar are taking things even further with its "13 Days of Taylor" sweepstakes, which features 13 days of giveaways "inspired by the singer-songwriter's love of the season." The fun begins tomorrow and continues through Dec. 13, Taylor's birthday (squeal!), with three winners being selected randomly to receive gift packages that change daily but always include a copy of Swifts "Speak Now World Tour – Live" DVD. Fans can register now on American Greetings Facebook page.

Check out some of Taylor's holiday handiwork after the jump.

Adele Using Voice-Generating Smartphone App To Talk While On Vocal Rest

Posted by MTV News On November - 30 - 2011

By Zachary Swickey

Most music fans are aware that songbird of the year Adele is currently on the mend from vocal surgery after canceling her North American tour for a second time earlier this year. However, the singer is getting by in high-tech fashion, using a smartphone app to communicate.

The Sun reports that the British singer has a fancy new app that essentially reads messages aloud as she types them into her phone, which allows the star to still run errands while she’s on complete vocal rest.

A source revealed to the tabloid, “She’s been using the speaking app to buy coffee at Starbucks and order cabs. … It is far easier to communicate using it rather than writing everything down on paper and showing people.”

Adele is still recovering stateside in Boston, where she underwent vocal surgery earlier this month, and while vocal issues have been a setback, she’s still having an amazing year. Her album 21 continues to sell like crazy, recently topping 12 million units worldwide and easily on track for 13 million by the end of the holiday season. The album has spent an impressive 39 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, where it has basically lived in the top five (it is currently No. 3) and spent more weeks at number one than any album since Santana's Supernatural in 2000.

Adele will likely have plenty more to be excited about when tonight’s Grammy nominations concert special airs tonight, as the singer is expected to be showered with multiple nominations.

Voting in round three of MTV News' Britney Spears Tournament: 30 Videos for 30 Years has officially closed and we're now down to the Final Four. Will "Lucky" get lucky against the naughtier "Criminal" video? Will "Hold It Against Me" get served by "I'm a Slave 4 U"? Second-round voting is now open so you can help decide.

At the end of round three, "Lucky" pushed ahead of "Till the World Ends" at the last minute, beating the newer video by less than 0.5 percent of the vote. And although "Stronger" held the lead for most of the third round, "Criminal" overpowered the 2000 video late Tuesday night.

Britney's collaborator on "Me Against the Music," Madonna, officially exited the tournament after the duet fell to "Hold It Against Me," which also came as a last-minute surprise since the Brit/Madge collabo held the advantage for most of round three.

In perhaps the most competitive pairing of the third round, two of Britney's widely celebrated videos, "Toxic" and "I'm a Slave 4 U" were pitted against each other, but sweaty Britney out-danced double-agent Britney. MTV News' Britney video experts have already predicted that "Slave 4 U" will be the biggest threat in the Final Four.

Head over to Britney30.MTV.com and vote for your favorite music video in MTV News' Britney Spears Tournament: 30 Videos for 30 Years.

Voting for the top four clips is open until 7 a.m. Thursday; the top two will be unveiled at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning, followed by the big reveal of the winner at 10 a.m. ET on Friday, which happens to be Britney's 30th birthday.
