Must-Have Items To Be A True Beyonce Stan

Posted by MTV News On October - 31 - 2011

Beyonce

By Maura Gavaghan

What separates the fans from the stans of King Bey? Well, for starters … Lots and lots of DVDs.

Fans listen to her songs on their iPods and watch her latest music videos on MTV and YouTube while they get ready for a night out. Stans (aka mega-obsessive fans) make Beyoncé a part of their daily lives. They have a space in their bedrooms dedicated to the preservation of DVDs released by the Diva herself and pride themselves on knowing the choreography to each of Beyoncé's music videos (not just "Single Ladies," like the average fan might). They get very upset if you ever dare suggest she is anything less than perfection (not that we ever would … we promise) and may even come after you on Twitter for daring to question anything the pop star does.

So before you head out to purchase Beyonce's highly anticipated "Live at Roseland" DVD, a 2-disc set that includes highlights from her four intimate performances at New York's historic venue last August, take a look at your fan status. If you think you are ready to take it to the next level, consider purchasing some of these DVDs to prepare yourself for the November 21 release of "Live at Roseland":

The B'Day Anthology Video Album (2007)
Beyonce's first video album is an essential part of a committed stan's DVD collection. The B'Day Anthology Video Album features thirteen music videos from Beyonce's amazing second studio album, B'Day (2006), and behind-the-scene footage, providing fans with nearly seventy minutes of Beyonce-loving bliss.

If you are not a Bey stan, you may not be familiar with "Freakum Dress":

The Beyoncé Experience Live (2007)
No collection would be complete without a live DVD of an epic Beyonce concert. "The Beyonce Experience Live" was filmed at the Staple Center in Los Angeles during her worldwide tour behind B'Day and includes back stage footage!

Above and Beyoncé Video Collection and Dance Mixes (2009)
The creative title of this video album alone is a reason for every devoted fan (or rising stan) to buy a copy! Consisting of two discs, this collection includes six music videos from Beyonce's 2008 studio album, I Am… Sasha Fierce, followed by dance remixes of the songs – basically a dance party in a neatly packaged DVD set.

Stans and everyday fans alike know and love "Single Ladies":

Beyoncé: I Am… World Tour (2010)
Finish off your Beyonce basics with the live concert DVD of her "I Am… World Tour." Filmed in the presence of over a million fans, this DVD captures some of the best moments of the tour, which spanned from March 2009 to February 2010, including guest appearances from Jay-Z and Kanye West. Did we mention this was Beyonce's directorial debut as well? Must have!

A few other things to consider:
Feature films: "Goldmember" (2002), "Carmen – A Hip Hopera" (2002), "Dream Girls" (2007), "Cadillac Records" (2009)
Destiny's Child Memorabilia: Start with "Destiny's Child Fan Packs I and II"!

Good luck on your journey to stan-dom!

Girls Generation Looking To Take Over U.S.A.!

Posted by MTV News On October - 31 - 2011

By Christina Garibaldi

Ever since I interviewed Korean pop girl group Girls Generation, I’ve been obsessed. They’re catchy songs will have you hooked, their dance moves are never out of sync, and they are probably the nicest group of girls I have ever talked to. Yet, I wanted to know more about the K-pop phenomenon, so I sat down with MTV Style Blog's Mary H.K. Choi to talk about the girls' style, their overseas success and whether or not they will dominate the charts here in the United States.

“They have a huge crossover appeal,” Mary said. “Something about pop is just like completely universal, and the type of music that they do is very ear worming, hooks get stuck in your head.”

When I sat down with the girls they talked all about their love for Beyonce (their favorite song is “Diva”) and their admiration for girl groups like the Pussycat Dolls and the Spice Girls, who Tiffany calls “epic.”

On October 18, the girls released their latest music video, "The Boys," and with 13 million YouTube views in just over a week, it's clear these girls are here to stay.

“First of all, it sounds like totally superficial, but they’re so cute and so attractive and they’re so sweet. They dance and sing in unison, I think there will be a huge appeal and I think we might be ready for it,” Mary said.

So what’s the next step for these girls in their quest for U.S. success?

“Next step is world tour,” Tiffany told us. “We definitely want a world tour! Be careful world we’re on the way!"

Breathe Carolina Recall Zany Halloween Antics

Posted by Jocelyn Vena On October - 31 - 2011

Boo! It's Halloween! And that means that it's time to not only think about what you're spooky, creep-tastic plans are for this year, but also look back on some of the fun you've had on Halloweens past. And we know you've had some very good times.

When electronic pop duo Breathe Carolina stopped by the MTV Newsroom recently to talk about their album Hell Is What You Make It and its single "Blackout" (two titles that, to us, sound vaguely Halloween-like! So good for them!), they also recalled a fun little anecdote about how they spent Halloween last year.

"Last year, we had the most ridiculous outfits," David Schmitt said. "And we were in Minneapolis [for a show]. It was Halloween that day and we didn't have any costumes." Before long, however, they had hunted down some goofy ones to hit the stage in. "So I think Kyle [Even] went to Wal-Mart and we were gonna figure it out," he continued. "And we got all this hunting gear and Tasty, one of our techs, he made a paper duck costume and we shot him with Nerf guns. It was ridiculous; it was awesome."

We're gonna go ahead and clarify that as ridiculously awesome. In fact, it's even more ridiculously awesome when the guys tell it themselves. So, check it out and perhaps steal, we mean, borrow their idea for your own last-minute Halloween costume this year if you haven't already nailed one down already!

The Kim Kardashian Kris Humphries Split: The Tabloids Got It Right

Posted by MTV News On October - 31 - 2011

OK, we'll admit that when we saw the news of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries' divorce, we were a bit shocked. OK, we didn't think they were in it for the longhaul, but after only 72 days? Shocking.

But as some in the MTV Newsroom said, they saw it coming fast from the minute that the couple said "I do." "How?" we asked. Apparently they got all of their news from the tabloids, and to prove it, they broke out some covers that rightfully spelled disaster all along.

In Touch: On the cover currently on newstands, the magazine vows to go Inside Kim's Fake Marriage.

Kim Kardashian Divorce

Life & Style: Just last week, the magazine reported that Kim knew her marriage was built on a house of cards.

Us Magazine: This week, Us wondered if she could save her marriage. The answer is NO.

Kim Kardashian And Kris Humphries Join List Of Hollywood’s Shortest Marriages!

Posted by MTV News On October - 31 - 2011

Kim Kardashian

By Maura Gavaghan

News broke earlier today that Kim Kardashian is filing for divorce only 72 days after tying the knot with NBA-er Kris Humphries. Kim is citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split, and we must admit, we are not shocked here in the MTV Newsroom.

Fights over the wedding venue and family vacations made us question this marriage before it began, but at least Kim is not alone in her decision to end things promptly! Not-so-happily-ever after seems to be a trend in Hollywood, and Kim and Kris are hardly the first, nor will they be the last, to call it quits after only a short time of marriage. Some marriages last a lifetime, but in Hollywood the timeline (and normalcy associated with that given timeline) is a bit different.

Read on for our list of Hollywood's shortest marriages and to check out MTV's interview with Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, where they talk about their surprise when Kim announced her engagement just a few months after meeting Kris.

A Few Days of Bliss = "Hey, they gave it a shot!"

>>> Britney Spears and Jason Alexander (married January 2004): After 55 hours of married life, Britney and her high school buddy Jason Alexander annulled their spontaneous Vegas wedding.
>>> Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman (married November 1998): Another Vegas marriage ending so soon? Who would have guessed it? Electra and Rodman ended their marriage after 9 short days, explaining that they were caught up in the moment.

Several Weeks of Happiness = "Good for them!"

>>> Ali Landry and Mario Lopez (married April 2004): These two hotties seemed like a match made in heaven, but rumors of Mario cheating led to their marriage ending only two weeks after tying the knot.
>>> Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds (married January 2008): Two weeks after exchanging vows in a "spiritual ceremony" in Bora Bora, Murphy and Edmonds ended their marriage without any explanation.

A Couple of Months of Love = "Wow, that is impressive!"

>>> Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray (married April 2005): "One Tree Hill" fans around the country were crushed when teen-idols Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray ended their marriage after 5 months, citing fraud as grounds for dissolving the union.
>>> Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson (married July 2006): They were barely clothed for their wedding, and the romance (at least on a physical level) seemed real. Nevertheless, the party-loving couple filed for divorce 4 months later based on irreconcilable differences.
